About Lu Peters

Lu Peters’ work combines collage, painting, dyeing, and embellishment and features the interplay of texture, color, organic and geometric shapes. Her garments have been selected for exhibition by the American Quilter’s Society Hobbs Fashion Show (Paducah, Kentucky) and the International Quilt Association (Houston, Texas), where she earned a Judge’s Award in 2003 and an Honorable Mention in 2006 at the Stitch ‘N’ Time Fashion Show. She has garnered numerous local and regional awards for wearable art and quilts, including the Pfaff Special Garment Award for Sargasso Sea. Her piece Mood Indigo was featured in the November/December 2005 issue of Belle Armoire, a nationally published wearable art magazine. Reinventing the Wheel, a beaded silk quilt, received the First Place Award at the Dallas Area Fiber Artists’ biennial show in 2005.

In her latest seminar, New Directions in Wearable Art, Lu presents a brief overview of the history of wearable art and then forecasts future trends and influences. She shows a variety of garments and patterns, and explores design, techniques, and resources. The seminar also features tips on improving skills.

During a career spanning four decades, Lu has founded a design business; taught felting, papermaking, and sewing; worked in the retail, wholesale, and mail order fashion fabric businesses; and served as a contributing editor of Press de La Plantz Sew Magazine and Art You Wear Newsletter. She has been named an Outstanding Volunteer of the Quilter’s Guild of Dallas and is an active member of Dallas Area Fiber Artists and the American Sewing Guild.

Her website, www.lupeters.com, contains book and resource lists that cover all aspects of multimedia art, fiberart, wearable art, and sewing.
